A Mercearia d'Alegria B&B is located in Peniche de Cima, one of the first neighborhoods in Peniche. This neighborhood is rich in history and is situated on a street that was once one of the busiest in the city, with frequent traditional events that brought the entire community together.

In the 30s and 40s, this area was made up of several taverns, commercial houses, and a sardine cannery, where between 200 and 300 people worked. It was in this community environment that Menina Isabel's grocery store was born, known for helping the most needy families in the neighborhood. Perhaps that is why she is still spoken of with such affection today.

Inspired by this past, we decided to recover not only the memories, but also the concept of a grocery store from that time to create our Boutique B&B. The name Mercearia d'Alegria (Grocery Store of Joy) arose precisely because we are located in front of the old grocery store of Menina Isabel (Isabel Girl).

The entire decoration of the house reflects this legacy:
At the reception, next to several historical photographs, you will find an old scale, a cabinet where cereals, bottles and containers from that time were kept, antique chairs and even some original products.

The rooms follow the same concept: with details of reused antique pieces, combined with all the comfort and quality of today.
